2 Sessions Down...
This first week of classes was a very interesting one. You learn very quickly everyone's personalities, their motives, their experiences and who likes to take two bags of chips instead of one (me..don't judge).
Each 3 hour class is pretty densely packed with information. Discussion and questions are encouraged so that helps to retain the information on topics but we still need to read our PRIDE BOOK. These topics really make you think. Think from a perspective of a child coming from a traumatic situation and as a parent who can't parent like they would their own child. These kids are delicate...they have triggers, fears, insecurities, some health, behavioral and/or mental problems. It takes a unique mindset to take on foster care. A lot of it (to me) is common sense but there's a lot to learn and a lot to be trained in. So far I don't feel scared of this process or overwhelmed, just....curious. I want to know more. I want to understand why Virginia has SUCH a broken foster care/adoption system and why there aren't more people willing to take on a challenge to help these children in need. In my mind it takes a village...
So we watched part 1 of this incredible short film in class titled 'Removed'. Please take the time to really take all this in and be prepared to be moved.
The bible of Foster Care...
It might not look like much here...but I think this is more paper work than when we bought our house. Eeeeek!

Kearsten
